Often times, when people say "Shirakawa-go", they actually refer to the largest village of Ogimachi. There are also other villages within Shirakawa-go area, but Ogimachi is the main one that people visit.
What's great about Ogimachi is not the “must-see” sights, but just walking around and taking in the atmosphere and sights of the village.
Check out the various little souvenir shops littered around town, grab some Hida Beef (飛騨牛, Hida Gyū) skewers from one of the food stands, or sit down for a cup of coffee and some traditional desserts around an irori (囲炉裏, Sunken hearth), a traditional stove.
