Bijodaira is famous for its primeval forest, forests that have been left almost completely untouched. Bijodaira features multiple walking trails where you can find large Tateyama sugi (杉, Japanese cedar) trees that are 20 to 30m high, have a circumference of 6 to 10 m and are over 1000 years old. You can also find a variety of beech trees that are 200-300 years old, and over 60 species of birds that chirp loudly as you stroll through the forest.
Throughout the country, there is a selection of 100 titan trees called the Mori no Kyojin Tachi Hyakusen (森の巨人たち百選, lit. A Selection of a Hundred Forest Titans) with each of these selected trees having their own unique name. A number of the sugi trees in the forest are part of this selection, with the most famous being the Bijo Sugi (美女杉, lit. beautiful lady cedar).
