Asahi Honten

If you're going to get something at Asahi Honten, you go big or go home. We would recommend only getting the jumbo-sized tako senbei (たこ煎餅, Octopus Cracker) for the experience, because taste-wise it is somewhat unremarkable. If it's your first time here though, you should definitely get, what has become Enoshima's iconic snack. We personally prefer the tako (たこ, Octopus) filling because the ebi (海老, Prawn) filling has a bit of the shell in it. Though honestly, we couldn't really taste either the tako or the ebi once it was pressed into the senbei.

As an experience, we rate eating it highly. But as a dish itself, the senbei is just alright. It has a nice crisp, but the taste is a single-note. We recommend sharing it with someone, because there's a good chance that you'll get sick of the taste if you eat the entire thing by yourself.

When collecting the extra large senbei, we recommend holding it with two hands. Since it’s thin and crispy, it can be quite brittle and break easily under the weight of the entire thing, not to mention that it's not exactly wind resistant. Also, if you’re getting the extra large one, we recommend sharing it with a friend so that you won’t get too stuffed.
