For those who want to soak up the atmosphere and experience what it’s like to wear the kimono (着物, Traditional Japanese Garment), a form of traditional Japanese clothing, you can consider renting one at Koto.
Located just south of the Kurazukuri no Machinami district, this shop is conveniently placed between the station and the Kurazukuri no Machinami district. There are a variety of plans available for both males and females, with the main differentiating factor being the choice of kimono designs, the amount of accessories and services that come with the plan. There are also discounts for couples too. These plans are all for day rentals, so you can pick them up anytime after the shop opens, and return it before the shop closes.
For most, the basic plan would suffice and it comes with the actual kimono, an obi (帯, Traditional Belt), a kinchaku (巾着, Drawstring Bag), zori (草履, Zōri, Traditional Japanese Slipper), socks, and for the ladies, it also comes with hair accessories and hair arrangement. The service is designed so that you can be fully decked out in traditional Japanese wear, without having to bring along your belongings (which would be safely stored at the rental shop)
The typical flow involves making a reservation a few days beforehand, turning up on the day, picking your kimono, changing into your kimono in the changing rooms, hair arrangement for the ladies, and then off you go. A pretty hassle-free process that will get you decked out in no-time.
