Harajuku

Bustling Heart of Youth Fashion Culture in Tokyo

Popular youth fashion hotspot
Harajuku is considered to be one of centers of youth fashion in Tokyo, with Takeshita-dori being at the forefront of it. This small pedestrianized street sees large crowds flocking to the various fashion shops or crepe shops that line the street.
Towards the east end of Harajuku, you can find Omotesando, a long street of branded upscale fashion shops and luxury brands. On the south side of Harajuku is Cat Street that runs between Harajuku and Shibuya, with a variety of street fashion shops and restaurants along the mostly pedestrianized street. There is no widely agreed on theory on why the street is called Cat Street as cats are not commonly sighted in the area.
On the northeast side of Harajuku, you will find Ura-Harajuku, or Urahara for short, located on the backstreets of the north side of Omotesando. This area consists of small backstreets and alleys with smaller and more indie retail and dining options, and is a quieter side of Harajuku with cafes, bakeries and more.

Afuri is a popular Tokyo-based ramen chain that specializes in its , an extremely unusual choice to use citrus in a traditionally savoury type of soup broth. It is this unique combination of its savouriness together with the zesty sourness from the yuzu that makes Afuri's noodles such an irresistible combination. The sourness helps to lighten the taste of the noodles, making it extremely easy to eat, even if you're extremely full, because the sourness helps to cut through the richness, like squeezing lemon onto fried foods.
