A Japanese spin on a European-inspired grilled pork steak dish, there is only one main on the menu: pork steak. The question is, how big do you want it, and whether you want to splurge on the higher-end version. For most people, the Mt Takao portion (270g), named after Mt Takao in Tokyo (the larger steaks are all named after taller mountains around the world) would be the perfect size for dinner. Those willing to spend a bit more can consider the Tokyo-X pork steak, a special brand of pork known for its premium quality from the texture, taste, and fattiness, there are only limited quantities of the Tokyo-X pork steak each day.
In terms of condiments, the pork steak can be eaten with the in-house onion sauce, garlic sauce, , or just salt and pepper. We recommend giving each version a try to see which fits your tastebuds best, but note that yuzu kosho has a pungent taste similar to , so steer clear of that if you dislike wasabi.
As a side, we highly recommend getting the Garlic Rice, fried rice cooked with garlic that pairs extremely well with the pork steak. The rice is cooked with herbs, soy sauce and garlic crisps, making it an extremely flavorful dish.

Mallory Pork Steak Review and Thoughts

Recommended
We've been a big fan of Mallory Pork Steak in Jiyugaoka since they only had this single branch (today they have a few throughout Tokyo). We must admit, that the portions of the sides have shrunk a bit over time, but the taste and quality still remain just as good.

The classic Mt Takao pork steak is probably perfect for most people, and the first time we ate it, we were absolutely flabbergasted. The meat is very nice, juicy, and tender, which is difficult for pork sometimes. It's also finished off in the pan, so it has a nice outer layer and a smokey taste to it. They also have three condiments to go with it, salt, onion sauce, and garlic sauce. All three are good to complement the pork steak, but we personally like the onion sauce the most. It has a nice fragrance to it, the sweetness of the onions, and it complements the meat just nicely.
We also really love the creamy spinach and the mashed potatoes that come as sides, so much so that we've made a la carte orders for them before. The creamy spinach has just the right amount of salt and cream to make it delicious, even for someone who usually hates vegetables. The mashed potatoes were perfectly creamy, light, and seasoned well.
For ladies, the shop offers a popular Mt Hinayama cut that is smaller than the Mt Takao cut. So that one wouldn't feel overly stuffed after eating so much meat.
If you're looking to splurge a bit, you can consider getting the Tokyo X version of the dish. is a known for its exquisite marbling and high-quality meat. Its melt-in-the-mouth texture and juiciness will definitely redefine what pork can be to you.
Bonus Tip: Their garlic fried rice is really good, and we highly recommend getting a plate of it. The rice is perfectly stir-fried, and well-seasoned with the fragrance of the fried garlic coming through well. Especially since the portion of sides is rather small, we recommend getting garlic fried rice to share.
Do note that if you're coming for dinner, you should try to make a reservation in advance via the Line app. In the past, you could just walk in for lunch and dinner, but it seems like these days, it is reservations only up till 8 pm and then open for walk-ins between 8 and 9 pm.
