One of Greater Tokyo’s (首都圏, Shuto-ken) two major international airports, Narita Airport is the larger of the two, serving more international flights. Narita Airport is technically located in neighboring Chiba prefecture than Tokyo. In 2022, it was rated the fourth-best airport in the world by Skytrax.
There are multiple routes to get from Narita Airport to downtown Tokyo, including by train and by bus. The recommended option is via Airport Bus TYO-NRT, which takes 1 hour and 5 minutes to get from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station and costs ¥1,300. Luggage is stored in the luggage compartment of the bus, although each passenger can only bring aboard one piece of luggage.
If you prefer riding the train, the Keisei Skyliner is the fastest way to get to downtown Tokyo, taking 40 minutes to reach Nippori Station on the JR Yamanote Line and costing ¥2,570 (with a ¥2,300 discount ticket available for tourists). If you have a Japan Rail Pass, or are making a Shinkansen transfer at Tokyo Station, the JR Narita Express takes 52 minutes to reach Tokyo Station and costs ¥3,000 (with a ¥4,070 round-trip ticket package available for tourists who use it within a two week period). The cheapest train option is the Access Express or Limited Express service on the Keisei Main Line, taking 1 hour and 9 minutes to reach Nippori Station and costing ¥1,042 (note that this service leaves from a special Platform 3 at Narita Airport). Look out for discount ticket packages combining the airport ticket with Tokyo Metro Rail Passes.
The recommended way to get from Narita Airport to Haneda Airport is by limousine bus, which costs ¥3,200 and takes about 1 hour 10 minutes.
