One-Day Rental

While there is the option of renting a regular bicycle from the Tourist Information Center at Tonosho Port at ¥500 for a day, the hilly terrain makes it a painful ride via regular city bikes. Instead, we recommend using the Hello Cycling application to pick up an electric shared bike from Tonosho Port, with a one day rental coming in at ¥1,500 for a day. You might be tempted to save, but your legs will thank you for spending just a bit more as you tackle those uphill slopes.
The app, which has English support, allows you to also reserve bicycles in advance before you arrive. You don’t need to pay any sort of membership or subscription fee. Just the cost of your rental for the day, which you can do via credit card.
The bikes are electric assist, which means the motor kicks in when you go uphill to help reduce the burden on your legs. You can check the battery level of the bikes in advance via the app, or there’s a display on each bike with a more accurate measurement as well. Assist levels are adjustable, with higher levels making it easier to ride, but consuming more battery. Completing this itinerary would consume a good 80% of the charge on one of these bikes,.
Disclaimer: We do not have any association with Hello Cycling, and do not receive any sort of monetary reimbursement for this recommendation. The app is simply a service that we have used and enjoyed ourselves.
