Kochi Prefecture is famous for its beautiful rivers, the Shimanto River and the Niyodo River, as well as Katsuo Tataki, a local grilled bonito dish. Locals say that the Shimanto River has better scenery surrounding the river, while the Niyodo River has been water quality, earning it the nickname Niyodo Blue. The prefecture is also well known for its chinkabashi (沈下橋 sinking bridges), narrow vehicular bridges without guide rails that cross the river, built as such to withstand flooding.
Particularly on the western side of Kochi Prefecture, there’s a large variety of water sports, from river-based ones like canoeing and stand-up paddling, to sea-based ones like snorkeling and diving.
