The Chubu region, literally "central region", is located in the center of Honshū (本州, Honshū). Stretching from the Sea of Japan coast to the Pacific Ocean coast, the region is famous for Mount Fuji (富士山, Fuji-san) and the Japanese Alps (日本アルプス, Nihon Arupusu).
On the northern side, you can find Ishikawa Prefecture (石川県, Ishikawa-ken) famous for its fresh seafood, especially buri (ブリ, Young Yellowtail) and zuwaigani (ズワイガニ, Snow crab), and its traditional machiya (町家, Traditional wooden townhouse) districts of Kanazawa (金沢). Fukui Prefecture (福井県, Fukui-ken) is famous for the Fukui Dinosaur Museum, Japan's largest display of dinosaur skeletons, as well as Tojinbo, a picturesque coast with honeycomb shaped pillars.
In the center, you can find Gifu Prefecture (岐阜県, Gifu-ken), nestled in the mountains and famous for its Hida Beef (飛騨牛, Hida Gyū), Nihonshu (日本酒, Japanese rice wine), the traditional streets of Takayama (高山), as well as the gassho-zukuri (合掌造り, Gasshō-zukuri) of Shirakawa-go (白川郷).
On the eastern side, you can find Shizuoka Prefecture (静岡県, Shizuoka-ken) and Yamanashi Prefecture (山梨県, Yamanashi-ken), which both play host to Mount Fuji, as well as Nagano Prefecture (長野県, Nagano-ken). Shizuoka Prefecture is famous for its ryokucha (緑茶, Green Tea) as well as fresh the seafood from Numazu, located along Suruga Bay (駿河湾, Suruga-wan), Japan's deep-sea bay. Yamanashi Prefecture is home to the Fuji Five Lakes, where you can get stunning views of Mount Fuji from Kawaguchi-ko and Oshino Hakkai. Nagano Prefecture is famous for the ski slopes of Hakuba, and the picturesque view of the Japanese Alps (日本アルプス, Nihon Arupusu) from Kamikochi.
On the southern side, you can find Aichi Prefecture (愛知県, Aichi-ken), located along the cost of the Pacific Ocean and home to Nagoya, Japan's fourth-largest city, with plenty of industrial tourism options including the SCMaglev Railway Park and the various museums of Toyota.
On the northern side, you can find Niigata Prefecture (新潟県, Niigata-ken) famous for its rice production, the stunning view of the Kiyotsu Gorge Tunnel, and the tarai-bune (たらい舟, Tub Boat) of Sado Island.
