% Arabica's Story

Founded by Kenneth Shoji, a Tokyo-born Japanese who studied in California for University, he was inspired by Starbucks’ rise in California in the 1990s and how they created a new coffee culture and great atmosphere for talking with friends or studying. As the son of the owner of a trading company, he was exposed to different cultures and people from a young age, leading him to question his life goals and his existence after graduation. One of the things he realized was important to him, was having a great cup of coffee each day.
Thus, he founded % Arabica in Kyoto in 2014, that aimed to brew and sell the best coffee possible. He bought a coffee farm in Hawaii, became the sole-exporter of a Japanese roasting machine, and a distributor of one of the most popular espresso machines in the world. Through that, he hoped to grow % Arabica from its flagship store in Kyoto, to locations around the world connected via a love for coffee.
