Kuromon Ichiba, sometimes known as “Osaka’s Kitchen”, is where many local restaurants go to get their daily supplies and fresh seafood. This covered market consists of over 150 different shops along a single 600m street. Many shops open between 9am and 5pm, although hours will vary between shops.
There are many food stands where you can get fresh seafood or fruits. Do note that you should avoid eating and walking, instead finishing up the food at the stall that you bought it from and then disposing it at the same stall. This is to ensure that you don’t block the flow of people, or cause trouble to other stall owners.
Kuromon Ichiba Market's Story
Established in 1902, the market was named after the nearby Enmyo-ji temple that had a black gate. Hence the name Kuromon Ichiba (黒門市場, lit. Black Gate Market), sadly the temple burnt down in 1912.
