Tennozu Isle is one of the more off-the-radar destinations, and in recent years has evolved to become a popular art, and street art destination with beautiful waterfront canal boardwalks.
In the area, you can find a warehouse district that has been repurposed into modern bars and cafes, as well as art galleries. Along Bond Street, you can find various murals, including one that is 12 story tall.
You can also check out Pigment, an arts supply shop with the interior design done by world renowned Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma, that blends together the simplicity and beauty of Japanese wood together with the shop’s display of over 4,500 different colored pigments.

Bond Street runs through the center of what used to be the old warehouse district on Tennozu Isle, today, these warehouses have been repurposed for modern use, with the first warehouse becoming T.Y. Harbor a popular upmarket waterfront dining spot. Along the street, you will also find many walls that have been decorated with street art, including the side of a 12 story tall building. The area was the main venue for POW WOW! Japan, an international street art festival from 2015 to 2017 and many of the works remain today.

Canal Boardwalks

Wooden boardwalks line the north and northwestern sides of Tennozu Isle, and serve as a romantic destination for a stroll beside the canal. A variety of flowers have also been grown in planters along the northwestern boardwalk.

An artist’s paradise, Pigment Tokyo is an art supply shop that caries over 4,500 pigment colors, as well as ink stones, ink sticks, paint brushes, Echizen Washi papers (越前和紙 Japanese paper), and other materials. However, what makes the shop a great place to check out, even if you’re not an artist, is the beauty of the interior design that blends wooden aesthetics, designed by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma, with the sheer beauty of the various pigment colors. Everything in the shop is meticulously arranged and displayed, and is a feast for the eyes, even if you are not an artist.

Breadworks is a beautiful bakery and cafe located in a repurposed warehouse that blended modern designs together with the industrial look of the warehouse, maintaining the tall ceilings to give a natural and comfortable space for customers to relax in, as well as an outdoor waterfront terrace seating area. Bread is handmade, baked in-house, within the shop, and made fresh throughout the day.
