Okayama Prefecture is most famous for the town of Kurashiki (倉敷), which is popular for the Edo era (1603-1867, 江戸時代, Edo-jidai) vibes of the Kurashiki Bikan Historical District and the canal that runs through the town of preserved machiya (町家, Traditional wooden townhouse). Today, the preserved district has been re-purposed to house a number of modern shops and cafes in traditional machiyas, making it a great place to explore and stroll through. The nearby Kojima is also known as Japan's Denim Capital, where most of Japan's denim materials are produced, and you can find a variety of jeans shops and denim-themed items in Kurashiki Denim Street (倉敷デニムストリート, Kurashiki Denimu Sutoriito).
The capital city of Okayama is also famous for Korakuen Garden, one of Japan's Three Great Gardens (日本三名園, Nihon San-mei-en).
