When at Kyoto Station, one of the best places to stop at is Katsukura, a Kyoto-based tonkatsu (とんかつ, Pork Cutlet) restaurant. For the main, we recommend getting the Rosu Katsu (ロスカツ, Loin Katsu) Set Meal as well as a Chawanmushi (茶碗蒸し, Steamed egg custard) as an appetizer.
This hearty meal is a great way to end off the day, with crispy breading and juicy meat, tonkatsu is always a satisfying meal. The rice, cabbage, and soup are also refillable, so feel free to ask for okawari (お代わり, Refill). If you feel like another entire portion is too much, you can also tell them hanbun-okawari (半分おかわり, half-portion refills). The Chawanmushi is also a great appetizer, this steamed egg custard comes in a small bowl, and the texture is as smooth as pudding, with a wobbly texture, and the strong umami from the egg and a light dashi broth.
