Originating from Yokohama, and now popular across Japan, Iekei ramen uses a tonkotsu (豚骨, Pork bones) shoyu (醤油, Shōyu, Soy Sauce) broth with thick noodles, topped with chashu (チャシュウ, Chashū, Roasted Pork) and nori (のり, Seaweed).

Beautiful Port City near Tokyo
Yokohama is Japan’s second largest city and also houses the largest of Japan’s Three Chinatowns (日本の三大中華街, Nihon no San-dai Chūkagai). The area is popular for its Minato Mirai (みなとみらい) district, a new downtown with skyscrapers, the Cup Noodles Museum (カップヌードルミュージアム 横浜, Kappu Nūdoru Myūjiamu Yokohama), a popular preserved Red Brick Warehouse (横浜赤レンガ倉庫, Yokohama Akarenga Sōko), and more.

焼き小籠包
Shen Jian Bao
Shen Jian Bao is a Chinese dumpling dish that is popular in Shanghai, China. The Japanese call it Yaki (焼き) Xiao Long Bao (小籠包, Shōronpō, Chinese soup dumpling), with a crispy base, and a pork filling with broth inside the skin.
Popular Destinations
One of the three Chinatowns in Japan, Yokohama Chinatown is Japan’s largest and is filled to the brink with all sorts of Chinese street foods and snacks (that might actually be more authentic than you might have thought). Especially popular in the area are the shen jian bao (焼き小籠包, Yaki Shou-ron-pō, Pan-fried soup dumplings), the steamed xiao long bao (小籠包, Shōronpō, Chinese soup dumpling), egg tarts and more! We generally recommend steering clear of the wide variety of buffet restaurants around in favour of the street food – after all, quality over quantity!
A perennial favorite for locals, the Red Brick Warehouse is a popular spot known for its wide variety of dining and shopping offerings. It’s a great place to get some unique omiyage (お土産, Souvenir) different from what you might usually find at tourist hotspots. There are many local craft shops, high-end indie clothing brands, and unique food items like fruit-infused honey.

Cup Noodles are a part of daily life for many of us, and it’s something we take for granted as part and parcel of everyday life. Yet, if you really think about, the idea of cooking food with just hot water is actually a rather amazing one, and how it’s done in such a straight-forward and convenient way is actually nothing short of a major feat of engineering.

Getting Around
The largest station in Yokohama is, of course, Yokohama Station, which is surrounded by the Yokohama Station Area (横浜駅近所, Yokohama Eki Kinjo) that has above-ground and underground shopping malls, food halls, drinking establishments and more.
The main tourism destinations, however, are at the Minato Mirai (みなとみらい) district and the area around Yokohama Chinatown (横浜中華街, Yokohama Chukagai). These are connected to Yokohama Station via the Minato-Mirai Line which takes you to the Minato-Mirai Station or Motomachi-Chukagai Station in less than 10 minutes.
Those who prefer to take JR can take the JR Negishi Line to Sakuragicho Station for the Minato-Mirai district or Ishikawacho Station for Yokohama Chinatown, however these both incur around 5- to 10-minute longer walking times than their Minato-Mirai Line counterparts.
The Minato-Mirai area and the Yokohama Chinatown area can both be easily explored and traversed by foot, and are even connected by a seaside aboveground walkway – a walk from the Red Brick Warehouse (横浜赤レンガ倉庫, Yokohama Akarenga Sōko) in Minato-Mirai to Yamashita Park (山下公園, Yamashita Kōen) near Yokohama Chinatown takes just around 7 minutes.
