Essential Enoshima Itinerary

(江ノ島) is a beautiful area by the coast of , and is part of Fujisawa city in (神奈川県, Kanagawa-ken). It's a great place for picturesque views of the sea, towering over the bay, as well as to feast on seafood.
In summer, the beaches are packed with families and youths enjoying the summer sun and the sand. In winter, the skies tend to be clearer, and it's easier to get a clear view of Mount Fuji.
While sometimes paired together with (鎌倉) for a single-day itinerary, there’s more than enough on Enoshima to visit it for an entire day.

Our one day itinerary for (江ノ島) takes you through all the major sights of Enoshima, while also recommending you the best eats in the area that are not to be missed.
We'll go through the (新江ノ島水族館, Shin-Enoshima Suizokukan), the (江の島岩屋, Enoshima Iwaya), the (江の島サムエル・コッキング苑, Enoshima Samueru Kokkingu En), and most stunningly, the sunset at (稚児ヶ淵, Chigogafuchi). You'll also get some great seafood at (江ノ島小屋, Enoshima Kōya), and (とびっちょ), with great desserts along the way at (江の島プリン, Enoshima Purin) and Loncafe.
Do note that the sunset in Japan varies between 4pm and 6pm depending on the season, with winter being the earliest and summer being the latest. Tweak the itinerary and the start times based on the sunset timing when you visit.

Enoshima Aquarium is the Best Aquarium in Enoshima and one of the Best Aquariums near Tokyo. It is themed after the nearby and features many well-designed and modern aquarium exhibits. While many of the aquariums in the Tokyo area are rather small, the Enoshima Aquarium features wide sprawling tanks, exhibits, as well as a large stadium for dolphin shows. Enoshima Aquarium also aids in conservation efforts for the nearby Sagami Bay and deep-sea exploration in Japan.

Pudding shops might be quite common across Japan, but Enoshima Pudding sets itself apart by making its pudding with Mugi-kogashi (麦こがし), roasted barley flour. Mugi-kogashi is made by roasting barley, and then stone grinding it down into flour, leaving it full of dietary fibre and minerals. This flour is then mixed with egg yolks, cream, milk and other ingredients to create the pudding.

Walk down Subana-dori

Located in between Katase-Enoshima Station on the Odakyu Enoshima Line and the Enoshima Station on the Enoden Tram Line, this shopping street is lined on both sides with a variety of retail and food shops. It’s a great place to get some desserts, or pop into some interesting shops.

A beautiful located on a hill, as you climb up to the top of Enoshima you will pass through the various levels of this shrine. The patron goddess of the shrine is , the goddess of wealth, and you can wash some money to improve your wealth at the Zeniarai Hakuryuo (銭洗白龍王, lit. Coin Washing White Dragon King).

One of the trademark specialties of Enoshima is the huge , sold by Asahi Honten at the top of Enoshima. They also have a branch along Benzaiten Nakamise-dori, but the queues at their main shop at the top of the hill are usually shorter. Plus you get seats, and a view overlooking the ocean.

Explore some caves

These caves were carved out by tidal erosion, and were the former site of the original (江ノ島神社, Enoshima-jinja). Consisting of two separate areas, you can explore the first area with a candle in hand, winding through the path and exploring the narrow nooks and crannies like you’re an adventurer. It is said that one of these caves forks off and runs all the way to , while at another of these caves you can find a small shrine with statues of gods and Buddha too, which stands where the original Enoshima Shrine from 552 once stood.

Located at the top of Enoshima is Samuel Cocking Garden, which dates all the way back to 1862. The garden features blooming flowers all year round, and you can also view the ruins of the original green house and brick heater from when it was first built. Depending on the time of year, you can see roses, tulips, and also night illuminations, some of which are imported from Canada and other parts of the world.
