One of the best places to get a view of the coast in Takamatsu is from the top of Mount Yashima (屋島山, Yashima-san), with the area at the top generally being called Yashima (屋島, lit. Roof Island). The Yashimaru is a stunning observatory whose architecture itself is a work of art that was part of the Setouchi Triennale in 2022. You can also find a beautiful walking path with Ubamegashi (姥目樫, Ubame oak trees) that leads up to the northern tip where you will find the Yukakutei (遊鶴亭)
Getting Around
The primary method of getting around Takamatsu would be via the Kotoden, the local tram network. The Kotoden runs from Takamatsu Station, through the town, and pass the various tourist attractions throughout town. The Kotoden features three lines, which converge at Kawaramachi Station in downtown Takamatsu.
Most places in downtown Takamatsu, like Ritsurin Garden (栗林公園, Ritsurin Kōen), are accessible by Kotoden. Some places, such as Yashima (屋島) would require an additional bus ride. Most large tourist attractions would typically have some sort of public transport connection to the Kotoden network, such as the shuttle bus that runs between the Kotoden Yashima Station and Yashima.
